Women's Explorer Backpacking Series: Session Four -Practice Hike + Backpack Overnight

It's camp out time! We'll put everything we've learned into practice and have a great time with our new outdoorsy lady friends! Bring your loaded backpacks and your sleeping system for this overnight celebration of completing the classes. Our final session will include a gear shakedown, hike, on-site water filtration, fire building, a backpacking meal buffet and a toast to our awesomeness and the outdoors. Included: Snacks, Backpacking Dinner Trial Buffet, Campsite Fees, Guided Hike, and Discount to the Fall 2024 Arrow Adventure Women, Wine and Wilderness Retreat. This session will be held entirely outdoors.

Ages 16 & up. Registration is required. $50/person, $99/person for the series.

What better way to enjoy an early summer evening than exploring the park after dark. Join us for this unique opportunity to hike as we use our night vision and other senses to enjoy the nighttime sights and sounds of the fields, forest, and wetland area.

Firefly Lantern Hike

What better way to celebrate the first full day of summer than with a relaxing hike in nature through prairies of flowers, forests of leaves, and sparkles of fireflies? We’ll start our one-mile walk during sunset and finish under the stars. Salamander Run MetroPark’s trails are natural, but mostly smooth.

Fireflies

Fireflies or lightning bugs? No matter what you call them, come out and learn about nature’s favorite flashy things with MetroParks of Butler County. We’ll start in the shelter and learn a little about the insects’ life cycle, why they flash, and how to attract more of them to your yard. Then we’ll take an easy ½ mile hike to see lightning bugs in action under the stars.

We’ll find out where we are in the watershed and what creatures we can find in it. Then we’ll use nets and our hands to explore the creek and see just how good the water quality is.
