MetroParks Daily Fishing Permits- 2024

This is to purchase a Daily Fishing Pass only. The lake at Voice of America is stocked annually and ready for fishing. MetroParks Fishing Passes are only needed at the Voice of America lake. A State of Ohio fishing license is required to fish at all other locations. If you are interested in purchasing an annual Fishing Pass, please visit the Voice of America Welcome Center during business hours. Children 5 years and younger can fish for free.

Women's Explorer Backpacking Series: Getting Started

Join our women's community which seeks challenges, adventure and camaraderie in the outdoors. This three-week, hands-on series will give you the tools and confidence to begin backpacking. During session one, we'll talk through a typical gear list, the ten essentials, sleeping systems, what to wear and how to prepare physically and mentally for your backpacking trip. Participants will receive supply checklists and local suggestions for practice hikes and backpacking routes. This session will be held indoors. Sign up for all three classes for a discount to the Fall 2024 Arrow Adventure Women, Wine and Wilderness Retreat.

Run The Parks 5k Fall Series: September

Walk, hike, or run with us this fall during the Run the Parks 5k Fall Series and discover some hidden trail treasures. This family-friendly, non-competitive series will take place on the first Saturday of the month from September-November. Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. Registration covers all 5k's from September- November.

All ages.

Honeybee Observation

It is a busy time of year for our honey-making friends at the Timberman Ridge Area of Forest Run MetroPark. Join local beekeeper Bruce Benskin to explore the world of bees. Visit the park's hives and observe bee behavior while they collect pollen from the local plants. Take home free native seeds to grow bee-friendly pollinator plants at home.

Women's Explorer Backpacking Series: Food Water & Critters

Join our women's community which seeks challenges, adventure and camaraderie in the outdoors. This three-week, hands-on series will give you the tools and confidence to begin backpacking. For session two bring your camp chair and join us around the campfire to talk about fueling this epic journey! Eating right and hydrating are essential to the backpacking experience. We'll cover trail food, water filtration and demonstrate how to cook on a campfire or a camp stove. Participants will taste food samples. We'll also discuss "smellables" that might attract bears, mice and other critters and how to best navigate those situations. Session will be held indoors in the event of inclement weather. Sign up for all three classes for a discount to the Fall 2024 Arrow Adventure Women, Wine and Wilderness Retreat.

Financial Sustainability Certificate Program

This Program is a two-and-a-half day educational experience that addresses the pressing need to practice financial discipline and acknowledge the responsibility and privilege park and recreation professionals have as stewards of taxpayer dollars! Each and every day we get to spend their money. What a responsibility! We hold in our hands the power to impact communities by how we manage these resources. How we spend, how we generate revenues, and how we work to create a financially sustainable future for our organizations and for the field of parks and recreation.

Registration fee includes all meals (3 continental breakfasts and 2 lunches). *CEU's will be through CPRS and not OPRA*

Women's Explorer Backpacking Series: Hygiene, Leave No Trace & Let's HIke!

Join our women's community which seeks challenges, adventure and camaraderie in the outdoors. This three-week, hands-on series will give you the tools and confidence to begin backpacking. Alright ladies, it's time to talk hygiene-our needs are a little different than male hikers, so we'll cover everything you need to know but are afraid to ask! We'll go through some Leave No Trace (LNT) principles, including respecting nature and other hikers, where to set up camp and how to start a fire. Bring your backpack for a practice hike. We'll talk about how to properly pack it before starting on a short, interactive practice hike around the park. Participants will receive their own LNT card. This session will be held outdoors. Sign up for all three classes for a discount to the Fall 2024 Arrow Adventure Women, Wine and Wilderness Retreat.

Many types of birds travel through Ohio on their migration back to their winter homes in Central and South America. Let's see who's passing through Harbin Park and check in on our resident birds who will be staying through the winter! Binoculars will be available to use during the hike, if you don't bring your own. Meet at the Overlook Shelter.

Historic Augspurger House Cellar and Barn Tour

Join us for this opportunity to explore the rarely-seen Augspurger House cellar and the farmstead's historic bank barn. Learn about the functional roles of cellars and barns in an 1800s farmstead from the Friends of Chrisholm during a kickoff talk at 1PM. Please note that the historic cellar and barn have uneven walking surfaces and steps.
