Every great adventure starts with a step in the right direction. This week, we'll make sure you know your heading. Become a compass master and then show off your wayfinding wizardry on our practice courses.

Nature Explorers: Hunting Treasures in Nature

Find the fun side of nature when you become a Nature Explorer. This month-long series shows you unique ways to get hands-on with nature and explore some of your favorite MetroParks.

In the final week of Nature Explorers, you'll journey out into the wooded trails beyond the village, following the clues to find the hidden "treasure." This program is an introduction to letterboxing, and participants will create their own booklet they can use to continue searching for more on their own.

Nature in a Blink: Perseid Meteor Shower Observation

Experience Nature in a Blink, a year-long series in which MetroParks offers opportunities to appreciate fleeting seasonal natural occurrences.


One of the biggest meteor showers every year, the Perseids peak in the early morning hours on the night of August 12. With the new moon, we might just see some shooting stars! Enjoy this warm summer evening under the stars in your park after dark. This program will only take place if the weather is clear; please check for cancellation on our website and social media the day of the program to verify.
